What is DC3?
Well, the subtitle says it all: it is the Multiverse Sister Site of the DC2! And if this begs the question What is the DC2?, the answer to that is simple: the DC2 is simply the best DCU fan fiction web site out there, and if you've never heard of it, then you need to stop reading this right now, and go there: www.dc2universe.com; I promise, you won't regret it!
Kinda brings us back to the original question, though. Stick with me a moment, and all will be clear.
The DC2 is a more-or-less faithful recreation of the DC Universe, taking as it's starting point, a sort of Post-Crisis, yet Silver Age ideal approach to the characters we've all grown up with, know well and love--- the purpose being to give those who are not fortunate enough to work for DC (i.e., the fans) a chance to write and draw their favorite characters and titles. How many of us have hoped for a guest-writing spot on Action or Detective Comics, or thought, "Man, I could have written this better than Winick/Grayson/Busiek/Johns!" Well, at the DC2, those dreams can be a reality. The DC2 is for the fans and by the fans!
Since its inception in 2005, the DC2 has been producing high-quality fan fiction and fan art, and something inevitable occurred: the DC2 developed its own internal continuity. From the Zero Issues onward, what came before was at least as important as what came after, and we found ourselves turning away some wonderful proposals (or relegating them to Elseworlds, with the implication of peripheral importance), just to protect that continuity.
Then came the Crisis (also known as the Issue Ten Event--- or the IXE, for short--- a crossover impacting every DC2 title), where it was revealed that there exists not just a universe, but a Multiverse, and an infinite number of possiblities, all waiting to be explored!
The DC3 is that exploration! The express purpose of this site is to explore and develop the Multiverse of the DC2, which can be as vast and as radical as the minds creating it. While the DC2 must cleve to a traditionalist approach, the DC3 is free to imagine the heroes and villains of the DCU in fresh and innovative ways--- think of it as Ultimate DC, or Just Imagine [Insert Your Name Here] Creating the DC Universe! DC2 is Earth-Prime, if you will, and DC3 is everything else: the Multiverse!
Make no mistake: the DC3 can be approached without prior knowledge of the DC2 (and vice-versa), but any member who does so will be doing themselves a disservice: the sister-sites will always be linked in spirit, in shared talent and perhaps more--- I wouldn't be surprised to see the occassional crossover from time to time. After all, what is that ominous Omega Crisis lurking just beyond the horizon?
So, stick around, get involved and join the fun!
