not bad, man. I would have liked to see a little bit more happen with Scott and Barda, but the other stuff was great. I liked the scene with the ship ripping the statue of Darkseid's head off. The characterisation of Granny and the others was top-notch. Looking forward to the first meeting between Darkseid and Orion.

Been looking forward to this one, though I always like to review the titles as if they're the first time I'm seeing them, this is the first of the UDCU works, if I'm not mistaken, to debut completely on DC3 (though many of the other other series have had scenes and tweaks added for the DC3 audience).
The opening scene is fairly striking, continuing to show us different facets of the "war" currently being waged between the two planets. My first instinct was to wish the scene was longer, but at the same time, I realize that going on too long would only mute the impact of the end line - which was played very well.
Barda and Scott are great in your hands, Scott in particular really shines here, sort of standing out above both Barda and Granny as the clear star of the scene. He doesn't come off like a Mary Sue or anything, and it's great to see the perspective he keeps on life. He and Barda play off one another well, I hope that continues.
Orion and Lightray are an equally interesting duo, though one that needs to be explored a little further, which I'm sure you will in the near future. Orion is a lot of fun here, he's depicted as an unflinching badass, nearly invunerable but not completely. Lightray's reaction is equally true to his nature.
Orion of course continues to be a force to be reckoned with throughout the scene, whether it was wise or not to up the ante with Darkseid will be something I look forward to seeing play out in future issues.
And of course, the New Gods coming to Earth can only mean big things, I'm excited to see where you're headed with this next.
Riz' cover is striking as well, captures the three characters pefectly.

Riz's cover is indeed excellent, particularly considering he had to step in at the last moment, I owe him my gratitude. Speaking of this issue's saviour artist, I appreciate your praise, Riz. The Scott/Barda plot is on slow burn at the moment to allow for some more personal character development, but rest assured, by the end of this first big arc, I think you'll be more than satisfied with the advances in plot- they're both at very different places, that much is sure! And let me just say this- a BIG confrontation between Darkseid and Orion is coming, and it's coming soon... And I hadn't even realized that this was the first "all-new" issue from the UDCU, Tim- that's quite cool! As for showing different facets of the war, Kirby focused very much on the primary characters and while there will remain a strong focus on them throughout UFW, you can expect to see more areas which were less explored by the King, simply because there's no point in retreading the same ground which he has already covered far better than any other writer could. Really glad you liked the issue, and you're right in saying the duo of Lightray and Orion is less explored so far, that's something I hope to rectify in the near future- I deliberately devoted a lot of space to Scott and Barda simpoly because we've rarely seen what Barda was like at this stage of her character, and if that's come at Orion and Lightray's expense, then I have only myself to blame! And as you said yourself- the New Gods coming to Earth can't be good news- for either Earth OR the New Gods...

Some very mythic sequences in this issue, which is befitting the nature of its characters. Orion is fierce, Lightray is so not, and it all works, and you have the various characterizations nailed down very well.
Things are ratcheting up nicely, you have a good solid rising tension going on, and it should lead to some great breaking open action very soon, you can just feel it through the mood and tension of the background and atmosphere being built up.
Good work.
take care Don

Whoah, sorry I'm so slow in replying. Thanks for the praise, bossman, and you're right- things ratchet up again in the long-delayed next issue as the first story of the Earth-5 Gods nears it's climax! My schedule happened to #4, unfortunately. Still, Don's been an absolute champ about the whole thing, and you can expect issue 4 on the 9th of June, a month late. Hopefully, things will be returning to the regular monthly schedule after that- but all delays are completely my fault. Still, I'm happy to say we have our superb new regular cover artist coming aboard next issue, and I have absolutely no doubt Jorell Rivera will turn out some great work. ;D
