Hi folks! I'm new around here, so I figured I'd say hi. I've done the Teen Titans/ Outsiders #1 cover and I thought it might be interesting to show the character design process and all that good stuff. Like everyone else here, I'm a HUGE fan of comics. I also do commissions (he says to a room full of hungry artists), and pretty much draw whenever I can. My real life/job/family is pretty demanding on my time these days, so it's not near as much as I'd like, but here are some of the pics I've managed to work up in the last week or so for TT/OS#1! Character designs: Vibe. Kid Eternity, who was originally going to be on the cover but got bumped for design/layout reasons. Kasumi... Uhm... Cassandra Cain sans Batgirl theme. Mia Dearden Speedy. Mas y Menos. Nano-tech Cyborg. Mammoth (whose design changed a bit for the final cover). The #1 Cover Pencils: Obviously, for the #1 Colored Version, see the Teen Titans/Outsiders issue #1! And read the bloody comic! It's well worth the read!

Welcome to the DC3 dealen. You've got some great stuff here. Your style is great and I really like the expressions on the faces a lot. Can't wait to see more from you

I agree with Riz, and I agree with Brandon. There's such expression in those faces, and yet the art remains very clean and precise. Mas y Menos crackles with power and speed. And speaking of speed, the shot of Mia is very dynamic, very cool.
It's going to be nice seeing your art around here on DC3, Daelan. hope you enjoy your time with us.
Take care Don

Quick update to everyone awaiting art from me: My laptop is down and will be out of commission for at least today and tomorrow. I'll be leaving for vacation Friday AM early. Mockingbird, I'm using my wife's PC tonight to try and get that Last Sun pic finalized. You should have it no later than Thursday evening (hopefully tomorrow, but I'm padding the window a bit).
After friday, I'm gone for at least a week, although if I have internet connectivity at the hotel I'll likely be around on and off.

Don't worry about rushing the cover-- looking forward to seeing it done, and thanks so much for both keeping the work up and letting us know what's going on. Have a great time!

Cool, I think Kid Eternity looks really cool up there. Mammoth is reminding me of Hyde from LoEG, very nice.

This is me, back in town!
I learned a few things on this trip. First off, 23 hours on a train is nowhere near as much fun as the Aerosmith song would have us believe. It may keep rollin' all night long, but that just means you get no sleep. Trust me on that. Penn Station is a place of madness. I enjoyed it/hated it depending on whether I was carrying 200+ lbs of luggage. Apparently I met Jesus Christ in the Penn State terminal. He said so.
Also, based on my observations of carrying so much luggage and the Encumbrance Rules, I have a D&D Strength Score of 15 or 16 (3.5 rules), knowledge of which surely cements my spot in geekdom.
Also: Drawing on a train is not a realistic possibility. I heard once that Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse while on a train. I have my doubts about this. At the very least I hope he cleaned up the sketch before showing it to anyone else. Oy.
So, not a lot of drawings happened during my week of vacation in Georgia.
That being said, I'm back in town, recharged, and ready to rock. I had an outstanding time with my family back home. I'm back at the PC and hoping to get some drawing done this week. I'm still off work til Friday and I have plans with the wife and daughter to see Dark Knight and hit the Renaissance Fair again before I get back to my real job. After that, definitely expect to see some fresh drawings from me soon!
S'good to be back!

can I just tell you that you sound like an extremely cool geek? XD Good to hear you had a good time. Penn station is ridiculous in the off-hours.

First, thanks to all for the kind words and responses! I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation and I'm glad to be back at the ol' drawing board! As much as I enjoyed the TT/OS#2 cover, I couldn't just let it sit! The flat colors were exactly what I was going for for the cover, but the image needed a little more to it, and I've been meaning to try my hand at some more digital coloring. Nightwing here was sort of a warmup... I'd like to color some more in the near future, I think. Also, I'm doing some sketches for Impuleseallen's Ultimate Green Arrow which I'll scan soon.

Thanks for the kind words, folks! They help fuel the next bunch of drawings, don'tcha know! Speaking of which, my next project is Ultimate Green Arrow. I've been scribbling out costume designs since before I went on vacation. These are a couple of the more refined ones... I tossed on some rough color for the one, since I find that helps a lot to define the characters. You'll notice the younger Ollie in the corner. This younger version will be the one actually in the comic. Pat wanted a younger Ollie, so I took the same face and de-aged and de-furred it. Heheh

A fresh one... This is commission for a character pic for a friend of a friend. Nothing much to do with comics, but I drew it just the same. Fully digital, this one.

BEHOLD, a few recent drawings!! *insert musical sting!* First, a cartoony warmup/goof-off drawing: Various villains! Mostly Batman villains (inspired by different sources... I think The Batman cartoon has the best Riddler ever conceived!), but the original point of this page was to figure out Dr. Sivana... Outsiders/Teen Titans #3 cover sketch (the reason I wanted to get a handle on Sivana): OS/TT #3 Detail: Aaand a character picture for a good friend of mine, drawn in 2004:

*grins* Thanks for the kind words, sir! Aaand just so you don't think I've been doing nothing the last week or so, here's my latest cover for commentary. I know most folks tend to comment on the writing of an issue in the 'Tell Us What You Think" posts, so I like to toss these things up here as well. Detail...
