A great debut to what I'm sure will be a wonderful new series the first scene was so powerful, I feel so awful for poor Alan. the introduction of Guy was much fun, I'm sure we're all gonna have a good time with him, and Jesse has the will to match him It's gonna be a good team, and I can't wait to see what they'll have to face all together

I have to mention the cover first, as it was probably the main reason why I read this issue: besides the fact that it is a massively cool pic, I had to find out who all those Lanterns are! I recognize Hal, obviously, and it appears that one of them is Jesse Chambers, one is John Stewart, and one is Carol Ferris (nice incorporation of her Star Sapphire history!)--- but who is the mysterious blonde in the back? Plus, there must be more coming, as Guy was in the issue, but not on the cover...
As for the issue itself, I thought this was a pretty solid debut, if a bit uneven. I almost feel as if I should feedback the writers seperately, so different were the parts written by Don from those written by Tim. Maybe this title could benefit from an editor, or closer "overwriting" (I don't know what else to call it--- it's how Brian and I usually operate, working on each other's scenes, smoothing out each other's rougher edges). It wasn't bad, by any means, just kinda jarring.
The Alan Scott scenes were my favorite, but I felt like I came to this debut issue missing some information... What is the Round Table? Loved the creation of the GL rings! I guess there is no GLC prior to this..? No Oa or Guardians in the Ultimate U? This could make for a very interesting situation!
Not a fan of the Warrior iteration of Guy (not a fan of much that came out of the 90s, actually), so it's nice to see that he'll be getting a ring soon! Jesse comes across as a very interesting character--- has she been depowered? Glad she's getting a ring!
Actually, looking forward to seeing who else Alan goes to! His meeting with Hal is going to be good, for sure! I'm a big fan of Hal, and for me, a GL title just doesn't work without him, so I was very glad to see him here!
See you next issue, fellas!

An interesting way to start the series off. Alan Scott having a prominent role in the Corps is something I saw coming but not to that degree. Guy being established as a functioning hero is an interesting twist. And Jesse came completely from left field. However, i'd love to see where all of this is going, so i'll be back next month.

Hey, Dave, nice to see you drop by. I went to Brandon and asked him for a cover in large part because I thought it would catch the attention of some readers who like to follow his work. I knew he'd do some cool design work too, and he came through like a champ. As for who is on the cover, you're right about Hal and John, and right about Jesse. Our caped female wonder on the cover is not Carol (though she IS due up for an appearance), but instead Kimiyo Hoshi, aka Dr. Light (in the DCU proper) and the woman in the back of the group is Valentina Vostok. The process I go through with my writing partners (Tim here on GLC, Sam on Wonder Woman, and James on the Outsiders/Teen Titans Giant-Sized Special) involves us hammering out a story outline, bouncing it back and forth until we're both happy, and then one of us writes the story itself (usually me on GLC, usually Sam on WW). So I wrote the whole issue from the outline worked out by Tim and I this time (and for the first four issues of GLC). So anything uneven in the issue is all on me. I was very proud of the Alan Scott scene. Doing funeral sequences is so tough to keep from getting cliche and trite, and get the emotion real. I felt I accomplished that goal. The Round Table remains a secret in Earth-Five at this point, you're not missing anything (or rather...everyone is) but fear not...the information is coming. Slowly...surely... Warrior is to be appearing in the soon-to-be-starting SuperBuddies series that is a big, big goal of Tim's, and he'll be keeping that identity and powers. As for how that works out, and with the Corps, you'll have to see. These rings do fun stuff with some of our heroes. And Jesse still has her powers. As mentioned, she was Lady Flash in the history of Earth-Five, and I'm sure Tim can give you some more info on that, but her background will flesh out more, and you'll see her in super-action (and how the ring acts on her) next issue. Hal meets Jesse first, and the sparks fly! Alan goes to get John, and you see Val and Hoshi appear, as our plot thickens like thieves. Thanks for the kind words and we look forward to seeing you in thirty days. Take care Don

Thanks for the comments, UDC. glad we could keep you on your toes for this first issue. I forgot to mention answers to David above, but yeah, Alan's teh only "Guardian" for this GLC, keeping things Earth-based (but not Earth-bound, I'm sure ). There are no Oans and galactic Corps (not known anyway), keeping things in line with the general "Ultimate" trend of keeping heroes and stories more grounded by and large. The idea of Alan creating these rings was something I was really inspired by when it came to me, and I'm glad to see people reacting well to it. take care Don

It felt like I was missing some information in the grand scheme of things at times and some storylines were better than others (I particularly enjoyed the Hal Jordan story, thoroughly enjoyed the Alan Scott story but thought Jesse's was a little on the confusing side) and sometimes the descriptions were too sparse. However, I did like how the story cut to the chase. It was overall well written. There wasn't too much proverbial fat to read and it looks like it is going in an interesting direction.

Hey guys. It was a pretty good set up issue. The beginning was quite emotional. Poor Alan. D: Since this issue is co-wrote, who does the writing and who does the plotting or is it a little bit of both on your parts? I liked the fact that Hal Jordan was a part of a project that had to do with anti-missile techonolgy since his first adventure as the Green Lantern had to do with stopping missiles. Always solid work from Tim and Don.
