This was a really nice tale. I have to admit, because I'm not that familiar with the continutiy I was a bit apprehensive coming in, but it was truly accessible, and a great way to get to know the character. The opening was pure dialogue gold, especially the late night dialogue bit. If that's a segue from a previous story, it didn't feel too heavy handed, and it was hilarious seeing the two characters talking like that.
Speaking of dialgoue, that's what really shone here. The banter was sharp, tight, and bouncy as all Hell, and I loved seeing these two young women playing off each other. The "Dick" bit made me laugh out loud, and I did feel like I was missing out on something because I'm not overtly familiar with the Earth-Five continuity, but still, accessible enough.
The one thing I would say was negative was that I don't know who Kara or Linda or Brainiac are in the context of this world. This universe is unfamiliar to me (same as Gotham Girls though, right?) so I was wondering why one of the most villainous guys in the universe was cat-sitting, you know? But I didn't let it distract, but I thought I should point it out anyway.
I love Blackbriar Thorn. I really do. I want to use these kind of characters on DC2 but am unable to for reasons beyond my understanding, but you really used him well, and he was every bit as daunting and menacing as I remember him being in those brilliant Goyer/Robinson JSA stories I devoured years back.
A great issue, James! Thanks for taking the time to take part in this event, even if it's not garnered the attention that people deserve to have basked upon them!!
