Hey folks.
As the new Editor in Chief of the DC3, I know that the site is young. Yet, there is so much talent on offer that I don't fully know what I want to do with it all.
I took the position as a sign of respect for Dave, because I know that the world of the DC3 and the multiverse of the DC2 means a lot to him. I don't think I'm especially qualified for the position, but I hope the staff writers and the staff artists will help me by keeping me in line.
I see the DC3 as a place for give and take right now. You give as much as you can, as much as your comfortable giving, and you take feedback from the readers, from fellow writers, fellow artists, and eventually, like the DC2, from your friends. I know there are some tensions between members, but honestly, I don't care. This is a refuge from the outside world. You leave your anger outside and bring in your talent and your common sense.
Got a problem? Come to me. I see something going down that shouldn't be, you get a warning. Second time, you're taking a time out, and by that I mean you're banned for a length of time. I won't tolerate abuse of any kind, trolling, flaming, or any of that stuff. Saying that, we have to be careful, as there's a thin like between abuse and a joke taken the wrong way, a line I know all too well about. We have to be careful when taking comments. If we lose our sense of humour then the site is dead in the water. We're going to die, as simple as that.
The DC2 is a family, and I hope that the DC3 becomes an extension of that. DC3 members, head over to the DC3 and lend a hand! Pitch a series! Artists, do covers if you want! Same goes for the DC2 members, come on over! The range at the DC3 is so vast. Earth - 13 is home to the Inferior5! Earth - S is home to the classic Captain Marvel family! Think about what you could contribute. The DC3 is the DC2's multiverse, so use it accordingly!
To writers, I want to clear this up; each world is your own responsibility. You are in charge of maintaining the world in which your issues are set. I can't handle editing twenty-nine separate continuities. I wouldn't expect Dave to, and I wouldn't expect Mark to either. It's unfair on them, and it would be unfair on me too. I don't mind going over it in a broad way before it posts, but I'm not going to go through every single book with a fine toothcomb. We're all talented enough to know the difference between "there" and "their", so before handing it in, a read through would be appreciated immensely. We all have lives outside of the site(s) and some are more active than others.
If you want to lend a hand and EDIT a title, tell us! You'd become a valued member of the site, and also get a sneak peak of raw issues, full of story that might not make it to the site in the end! We need a solid foundation if we're to keep growing!
Artists! If you know fellow pencillers/inkers/colourists who want an outlet for their talents, come and drag them over here with you!
Carlos has developed a large and diverse Art Department and we should be continually adding to that.
Anyway, I hope all of you are well, and I'm sorry for going on a bit of a rant, but I thought I should say my bit!
Here's to the DC3, and here's hoping we experience the same ongoing sucess as the DC2.
Your friend,
Charlie Wilkins, aka: House of Mystery, EiC.
